In the not-too-distant past, people took one path in life (maybe two). They went to college, chose a career and stuck with it until they retired; but things are different now.
Today, young adults might choose not to go to college, or they might take a gap year. Adults change careers multiple times or re-enter the workforce after years away from it. People start businesses mid-life, and retirees embark on a career path they’ve always dreamed of but never had the chance to try.
You might be wondering why I chose the dragonfly as the logo and symbol of my work. When I started Turning Points Coaching and Consulting, I set out to guide individuals and organizations on their new paths and help them transition successfully from one stage to another.
Dragonflies are a symbol of this career transition.
The Dragonfly and Career Transition
In a way, the dragonfly is born twice.
Dragonfly eggs hatch underwater. The dragonfly nymph lives in the water, wingless, eating and growing and preparing itself for the next stage of its life.
Once the nymph is fully grown, and the conditions are right, it completes its metamorphosis into a dragonfly by crawling out of the water. It sheds its skin onto the stem of the plant; soft and vulnerable, it flies away into its life as a dragonfly.
You Are The Dragonfly
You learn and grow and develop, and if you’re lucky, you have moments in your life when you are vulnerable, shed your skin, and transition into the next stage. We are all at different stages of our career growth, but we are all meant to fly.
In this life, there are many opportunities for change. Whether you are still swimming in the water or getting ready to fly, as your career coach, I am here to identify and clarify your strengths to help you get from where you are to where you want to be.
